Ayla Networks and Qorvo to Jointly Develop ZigBee-Based IoT Gateways
Qorvo Will Showcase Ayla-Powered IoT-in-a-Box at IBC 2017 in Amsterdam
September 14, 2017
Ayla Networks, a global Internet of Things (IoT) platform for manufacturers, announced today that it is pursuing with Qorvo (NASDAQ: QRVO), a leading provider of innovative RF solutions that connect the world, the development of cellular-based IoT gateways for telecommunications service providers and mobile operators that provide home automation services.
Qorvo will showcase an Ayla-powered Smart Home Gateway solution at the IBC 2017 show, on September 15-19, 2017, at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre in Hall 1, Booth 1.A46.
“Qorvo‘s robust, best-in-class smart home gateways will enable Ayla to expand into the global mobile operator and telecommunications service provider markets,” said Bill Podrasky, vice president of business development for Ayla Networks. “Qorvo’s pedigree and reputation with operators expands the reach of our IoT platform, which is already the leading platform for manufacturers of smart home and other IoT products.”
“By combining our industry-leading 802.15.4/Bluetooth connectivity solution with Ayla’s end-to-end IoT platform, we have created a versatile and quick-to-market gateway product for our customers,” said Cees Links, general manager of Qorvo’s Wireless Connectivity business. “Ayla’s advanced IoT software technology gives us an opportunity to differentiate by offering smart home bundles that are complete IoT-in-a-box solutions.”
These smart home bundles can be used in a variety of applications, such as:
- Smart home access: IoT gateway plus sensors such as smart locks
- Smart home security: IoT gateway plus window and door sensors, smoke/carbon dioxide sensors, security cameras, and other sensors
- Smart elderly care: IoT gateway plus motion detector, temperature, LED lighting, smart plug, and other sensors
IoT gateways connect individual IoT products—and specifically, the various IoT sensors they contain—to an IoT cloud. In a smart home environment, IoT gateways enable connected products that lack sufficient processing or communications capabilities on their own to connect to an IoT cloud. IoT gateways also perform crucial security and other tasks on behalf of the products connected to them.
The Ayla-powered Qorvo® gateway is built on the Qorvo GP712 System-on-Chip, which provides concurrent support for Thread and ZigBee® protocols on different RF channels. This enables designers to use a single transceiver on their gateway products to simultaneously serve ZigBee 3.0, Thread, ZigBee RF4CE and ZigBee Green Power in a single radio.
The Smart Home Gateway solution will be available globally, beginning in China and South Africa.
